Murray McNabb: Eurasian (2002)

If the New Zealand Music Awards had a category for best reissue or best best archival release, the exceptional double vinyl The Way In Is The Way Out would be a shoe-in.

Subtitled "The Music of Murray McNabb", this lavishly presented collection pulls together an impressive cross-section of jazz and improvised music by the late keyboard player/composer, most of it previously unreleased.

A labour of love and respect by guitarist Gianmarco Liguori who played alongside McNabb in his final years, it appears on Liguori's own impressive Sarang Bang label alongside new albums and other archival releases.

Elsewhere has written about this collection previously, and there is an extensive interview with McNabb conducted just weeks before his passing in 2013.

But we bring it to your attention again via this beguiling home recording by McNabb which is on the album.

The album is also now available as a download through bandcamp (see here), but frankly we recommend the gatefold sleeve vinyl with a painting by McNabb on the cover.

It's the kind of thing which deserves and award.
