Indio: El Tesoro de los Inocentes [Bingo Fuel]

Might as well 'fess up straight away: I bought this album in Buenos Aires recently on the strength of its elaborate cover and knowing only it was a rock band that seemed to involve the highly regarded singer-songwriter Carlos Indio Solari (aka Indio) who seems to be able to fill the Rio del Plata Stadium (where U2 filmed U23D)!

Well, I've bought albums for lesser reasons, so . . .

The cover is a long book-like affair with interesting graphics but of the music I knew nothing until I got it home -- and it is impressive. A friend of mine who lives off and on in Buenos Aires and has travelled extensively around South America says flatly, "Argies get rock music" where other South American countries sort of don't.

I don't know about that, but Indio certainly gets it: this is widescreen, dramatic, lyrical and often dense rock with a touch of prog about it. This album came out in 2004 but I was tipped that it was better than his more recent work (louder I was told, and loud is usually pretty good) -- and any album which includes quotations from Jacques Brel and Lennon-McCartney is okay by me. indiio2

When it isn't in rock mode there are expressive ballads with distant trumpet, saxophone, interesting arrangements and so on. And it certainly isn't a dense delivery all the way either. Some real dynamics going on.

I can tell you no more than that, but if you have the inside running on this guy then feel free to Post A Comment. I'd like to know a whole lot more.
