Lead Me On, by Ruthie Foster
Various Artists; Antone's 50th All Stars: 50 Years of Blues (digital outlets)

As many will know, Antone's is a legendary blues club on Austin's famous 5th Street.

Rather than go into names too much it's easier to say just about everyone of any note – from old guys like Pinetop Perkins through BB King to Stevie Ray Vaughan – has played there.

This 41 track collection is such a monster we're simply going to mention some of the artists on it and leave the rest over to you.

Try this for size: Jivin' Gene featuring Charlie Sexton; Kim Wilson and the Fabulous Thunderbirds; Ruthie Foster (great version of Lead Me On); zydeco star Clifton Chenier; Los Lobos; Doug Sahm; Sue Foley; Pinetop Perkins; Jimmy Rogers; Sunnyland Slim; Otis Rush; Buddy Guy; Albert Collins; Gary Clark Jr; James Cotton . . .

I Won't Cry, by Doug Sahm

Many of these are live recordings or previously unreleased studio recordings and the names in smaller print include Jimmie Vaughan, Anson Funderburgh, Marcia Ball, Stevie Ray Vaughan (with Doyle Bramhall II), Darryl Jones (so this is what he does when not playing with the Stones), Duke Robillard . . .

This is quite a rollcall of blues, Southern soul and tough Texas sounds, obviously for those who want to buckle in for the very long haul.

You have been warned, this has been a public service announcement.

.

You can hear (some of these tracks) and buy the lot or individual songs from bandcamp here.
