JULIAN REID: SOUNDS AND VISION (2025): The album as travelogue

Expat songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Julian Reid has lived in Britain for more than two decades but in the past five years his work has taken him to through Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East, Pakistan and India, Canada and the United States.

And elsewhere for holiday downtime. He has become a well-known photographer but he has always written music. We have featured one self-titled album here and a couple of photo essays here.

In New Zealand he was known for the bands Braintree and Stayfree Carefree, in recent years he has recorded a series of mostly instrumental albums under the name Fortensky.

His most recent album Cold Light under his own name however has brought together his songs – melodic alt.country-cum-pop – with footage shot in various locations from Savannah and New York to Mumbai and . . .

Well, see for yourself.

And you'll spot very quickly some linking imagery between all these video songs.

Hard to believe you can shoot at the Gateway of India in Mumbai and on the streets of New York with barely another soul in sight.
