Lonely Night
ONE WE MISSED: Trousdale: Growing Pains (digital outlets)

Released in April but flying straight past us, this new album from the LA-based trio of Quinn D’Andrea, Georgia Greene, and Lauren Jones serves up concise, guitar-driven country-rock, harmonies and smart songs mostly recorded live in the studio to capture their energy and integrity.

Some of this second album deals with the fatigue and expectations after their sudden rise and touring, but even when they have a downer mood on they manage to make it poppy.

On the axes somewhere between the most upbeat of Taylor Swift, the jangle of the Byrds and early Tom Petty with a lacquer of mainstream country and baked in classic pop structures, Trousdale deliver heartbreak (Want Me Back) and positivity after the relationship is dead (Over and Over) with equal confidence.

Country-rock that isn't Taylor but has much the same magnetic attraction.

Doesn't push the envelope but it's certainly entertaining in the moment.

The women on vocals, acoustic guitar and piano have a band behind them on bass, drums, electric guitars and more to really drive this home (Lonely Night).

Let's hope they bring some of those players with them when they play November 10 at Auckland's Tuning Fork.

They'll need them.
