New Zealand

The coast at tiny Herbertville near Cape Turnagain on the east coast of the lower North Island of New Zealand, a small seaside resort with the best beach on the Hawkes Bay coastline south of Napier
Main street of oddly symmetrical Eketahuna in the centre of New Zealand's North Island. We never did find the "eatere"
Broadcasting as it used to be in New Zealand. An old station in a field near Waipawa.
Te Mata Peak near Havelock North in New Zealand's North Island.
Leaving the dull clouds of the hometown for the clear skies of the south west Pacific.
Toilets at the station. The toilets were the same, but the Ladies got better lettering. Waihi, New Zealand.
Sunny's discount warehouse, Paeroa, New Zealand.
Coventry dairy in Paeroa, New Zealand.
Very long Maori place name which impresses tourists if you say it quickly. See Travel Stories.
Party invitation in rural New Zealand. See Travel Stories.
The face in the window. At Kumar's Indian restaurant in Paeroa, New Zealand.
The Zephyr Six outside the famous "Eke". See Travels in Elsewhere
Okarito, way down the west coast of New Zealand's South Island: home to author Keri Hulme, strange stones on the beach and a million sandflies.
"The most photographed tree in the country," said Russell the fishing guide -- and you can see why. Lake Brunner, South Island, New Zealand
Lake Brunner in New Zealand's South Island.
Tree house at Hapuku Lodge, Kaikoura, New Zealand. Luxury room with a view to the sea one way and the snow-dusted mountains the other. It doesn't get much better than this.
Music Department buildings at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand.
Even the laundromat in Westport on New Zealand's West Coast of the South Island enjoys a historic building.
Lake Brunner in the South Island of New Zealand
Famous, and famously over-priced, crayfish caravan north of Kaikoura on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Great location though.
Kiwi Gothic? Photo in the hotel now known as "Formerly The Blackball Hilton". Complex name, but it avoided a lawsuit from the Hilton Hotel chain for the hotel in Blackball in New Zealand formerly known as "The Blackball Hilton".
Lake Brunner in the South Island of New Zealand.
Short people must have it tough in the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand. They appear to be rounded up and put in pens.
On top of the Franz Joseph Glacier, South Island, New Zealand
Morning at Waipari Lodge, a remote 10,000 acre, deer-filled region of native bush south of Taupo in New Zealand's North Island. Lotsa goats, and good fishing too. Hunter's paradise.
View from the top: the Central Plateau of New Zealand's North Island from Waipari Lodge.
The famously long and shaky Tokaanu Wharf which juts out into beautiful Lake Taupo in New Zealand's North Island. Tiny Tokaanu boasts a fascinating Maori and settler history, cheap property, hot pools and is within a short drive of the ski-fields.
U2 in Auckland, New Zealand in . . . 2007? They were smart enough to suggest something about Aotearoa -- and we loved that. Great concert -- and they did something which suggested "Phoenix" in Arizona when I saw them there too.
How to prevent coastal erosion, west coast on New Zealand's North Island.
A watercolour page and ink script from a journal illustrating a walking journey through marshes and beaches near the west coast of Auckland, New Zealand. (For my friend Guy: see Absolute Elsewhere)
And that would be Wellington Harbour, just after dawn.
From Pukehina Beach in New Zealand just as the season changed to autumn
Two years later, same room and same view in New Plymouth, New Zealand
Auckland, New Zealand from 10 storeys up in the Amora Hotel penthouse
