Misled Convoy: Translations III (Dubmissions/digital outlets)

Elsewhere will concede immediately that we are unfamiliar with all but a couple of the pieces here remixed by Misled Convoy – which is Mike Hodgson of Pitch Black – but that's what we also said about the previous Translations collection.

However when Hodgson lays his hands on things – remixing, adding additional effects and/or instruments – we'll always pay attention.

For those in the know, the original material here comes from Bluetech, Subset, Eyeliner (AKA Distasteradio, Lower Hutt's prolific Luke Rowell), OhmikRon and Xqui among others.

The overall mood here is low, lights on dim and dubbed-down but as always Hodgson's production and sonic sensibilities allows for the core tracks to retain their diversity with in the whole.

Subset's Decoded becomes a spacious dub stripped to percussive elements echoes and throbbing bass, Eyeliner's Pinot Noir is a thing of gentle and romantic beauty moving from ambience into jittery dancefloor pop and the 13 minute-plus Twenties which closes this collection is one of those weird mash-ups of the found sound/sampler Xqui's material which was on the Twenties Remixed album. Xqui is someone to discover and if this journey through sound leads you to him then all the better.

The electronica dubadelic track by Dabtronic (David Asher) is the remix of Mezkacuba which appeared on the three-track single earlier this year alongside an On U Sound remix.

As we said, when Hodgson lays his hands on things we'll always pay attention.
